Assembly of European Regions
President of the Assembly of European Regions and of R20 (Regions for climate action) and Regional Minister of the Environment and Vice-President of the Regional Council of Västra Götaland, Sweden. Magnus Berntsson is 45 years old and grew up on the island of Fotö in the northern archipelago of Gothenburg. His mother worked in the private sector and his father worked as a fisherman and a trawl maker who later studied to become a psychiatric nurse. It was in this environment that Magnus' values were shaped. It is, therefore, no surprise that he dedicated himself to regional politics, which oversees healthcare and regional development issues in Sweden. He is committed to working towards a region where no one is held back or left behind in society. This work is not limited to Sweden. Magnus is also very active on the European stage as president of the Assembly of European Regions (AER) and Regions of Climate Action (R20). Three of his interests include music, movies and sports. Magnus is a keen scuba and free diver and likes to practice cross-country skiing. He also has a keen interest in history and can often be found reading history books – or nowadays listening to them on his phone.
