Regional Minister for Sustainable Development
Cora Smelik studied Turkish language and literature at Leiden University . From 1993 to 2000 she worked as an interpreter/translator Turkish and from 2000 to 2009 as attaché for social affairs at the Netherlands Embassies in Turkey, Ankara and Morocco, Rabat. From 2009 to 2014 Smelik worked as a Director at the Social Insurance Bank (SVB). From 2014 to 2019 she was director of two Regional Environment Agencies. Since 2019 she has been Regional Minister of the Province of Flevoland. She has in her portfolio Sustainability, Environment, Regional Strategy on Spatial Planning and Environment, Innovative Public Administration, Circular Economy and Climate Adaptation. Smelik is Chairman of the consultative body on Sustainability at the Greater Metropolitan Region of Amsterdam (MRA). Smelik believes in a world in which the growth of well-being and the protection of all that is vulnerable go hand in hand.
