Since our launch in 2014, we have, with the help of our customers, prevented about 1,609 tons of electronic waste by keeping devices and appliances in circulation. This information is not only tracked by us but shared with customers so they understand the impact they are having by purchasing a used vs new electronics product.
As a brand, Back Market stands for making it cool and easy for everyone to buy renewed electronic devices. Ultimately our mission is to make renewed electronics an attractive alternative to new electronics in order to decrease the environmental impact of tech and create a robust circular economy. To achieve this, we must change the mindset around purchasing “not-new” electronics devices. An integral component of the Back Market brand is linked to our impact on reducing the environmental impact of tech. We strive to do this by making it easy for consumers to keep electronics in circulation longer. We know if we can extend the lives of electronics for as long as possible this not only keeps them out of landfills but also makes the most use out of the energy and resources expended to create them. This is why we are working so hard to create more demand for refurbished electronics - so we can combat the overproduction (and over consumption) of new devices. 2020 has been a phenomenally unique year. Fortunately, this has had a positive impact on our efforts to shine a new light on tech and how we consume it. We're offering people more than just a way to buy electronics at a discount. We're putting power back into the consumers hands with a focus on the importance of a circular economy. We constantly educate and empowered consumers to act with their purchasing power and to understand the value of buying used electronics. And it's actually working!
