LAVINA SEQUERA Founding Member, Soil of India Recognized among Asia’s Top Sustainability Superwomen 2019, by CSRWorks International and Global Reporting Initiative, Singapore and recipient of the Eco-Business A List award for ‘Sustainability Leadership during Covid-19’ by Eco-Business in partnership with Trucost, part of S&P Global, Singapore, Lavina Sequera is currently Hon. Executive Director Women Empowerment and Global Goodwill Ambassador for Human Rights and Peace for India and Hon. Executive Director – CSR, National Council of News and Broadcasting – both, signatories to UNGC. Lavina began her work on rural empowerment programs 15 years ago working on government, private and Not-for-Profit initiatives in India. She spearheaded India’s largest rural CSR program for Hindustan Unilever Ltd. spanning across 70,000 villages in 2010-12 and used that experience to subsequently establish a women-led, income-generating programme supporting 600+ rural artisan clusters* as founding member of Soil of India initiated in 2012 and soft launched worldwide in 2018. During the lockdown she unsparingly remained connected with artisan families, motivating them to sustain their creations by underwriting their procurement by SOIL, giving them an unparalleled lease of life. Soil of India is a social enterprise whose Mission is to Create the World’s Most Valuable Sustainable Lifestyle Brand for a surging new wave of Global Conscious Consumerism (further accentuated by the pandemic). *600+ Artisan Clusters across India consist of around 40,000 Artisans ( approx 60-70 artisans per cluster ) impacting an overall population of 200,000 people (average family size being 5 members). Among these Artisans, in its current initial phase, SOIL supports, procures and promotes products from 1200 Artisans and proposes to scale up to 10,000 Artisans in the next 12-18 months. SOIL currently fulfils 5 of the 17 UNSDGs. At the same time, she continues to support and promote culture and art as Cultural Advisor at one of India’s leading NGO (Triveni Kala Sangam) that protects and promotes Traditional Indian Art, Music and Dance Forms through experiential learning. Lavina engages with varied NGOs that cater to children who are of special needs, children from villages who come for treatment of Cancer at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (India’s leading Government Health Institution) and children who live in slums without formal education. She introduced workshops to instil Life Skills for children who were living in circumstances that did not permit them to have their basic needs met. Depending on their unique circumstances, these workshops contained Art forms, Music, Psychodrama, Body Movement, Meditation and Life Coaching. Inspired by Ingrid Maxine Marcus her Mentor, she mediated legal / international aid, sustaining the welfare of children in an orphanage in Madhya Pradesh, as also supported humanitarian causes such as mapping rural Tanzania to curb Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) under the aegis of the UN. In 2020 as part of a humanitarian initiative on the colossal impact on migrant workers in India, due to the unprecedented Lockdown (current pandemic) , Lavina along with a group of lawyers filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court seeking swift, uniform nation-wide acquisitions and conversions of "Self Containing Accommodations" for migrant workers stranded on state borders due to the lockdown, for utilisation of such accommodations as isolation/quarantine facilities and as shelter homes for the needy. Or for that matter, during the Lockdown and thereafter, Lavina continues to reach out to protect, feed and provide medical relief to distressed street animals (specifically abandoned dogs and cows) in coordination with onground animal activists. Her impactful work was appreciated and recognised by the All India Council of Human Rights, Liberties and Social Justice and appointed as Hon. Executive Director for Animal Welfare and Protection. Furthermore, She was recently appointed as Judge, by Together In Action - a Social enterprise powered by Earthtech that's on a mission to scale 1,000 youth-led social enterprises and positively impact 1 billion people over the next 10 years. ------------------------------ Links in support of claims of achievements and impacts as evidence, serially in order of above Biography: Lavina Sequera Linkedin : i.
